When I started my career in marketing, just around the time TV advertising was still seen as a much-needed cost, and AI did not exist, work-related intelligent automated activity was an action you could do in an Excel spreadsheet or even HTML.
How the world has changed. Already, 56% of the workforce uses AI daily.
For me, it started years ago with Zapier, an easy solution to the problem of trying to get different systems to transfer data. Then, it moved seamlessly into HubSpot, which I discovered in 2018; next came chatbots & then one of my affectionate favorites, Grammarly.
Then, 18 months ago, I worked in the city for a Salesforce ISV at a tech start-up workspace. The CEO (dev founder) showed me chapGDT. I recall the afternoon when it "hit" the inner walls of the tech office and how the building was alive with people testing it—most of us commenting about its future possibilities. Everyone wanted more. Everyone was excited. None of us knew it marked the start of the digital AI explosion.
Fast-forward nearly two years after chatGPT launched, and we are now in the midst of an AI marketing revolution. With so many AI marketing tools, apparently between 500 and 1000, at our disposal, it's not a question of whether we should use AI, but what?
Of course, some cynics raise the question of authenticity in copy and how Google can recognize AI-generated copy, but what happens when AI starts to learn its tell signs?
What happens when it delivers better thinking than any marketeer can have?
So, what's next for the modern marketeer? Well, now more than ever, we need to harness technology, and it's our responsibility to become equipped.
Here's my current Ai tool kit...
HubSpot—I'm now in my eighth year of using it, and it continues to amaze and delight me.
AI-driven subject lines for my emails are available on mailmodo.com (It's free!)
SEO content and optimization by surferseo.com/
Information or even a marketing plan from Claude.ai Ask it to write a marketing plan in the style of XXX, and you'll be amazed at what it can do...
Transcribing by Otter.ai
Video AI (today's find has entirely blown my mind—thanks to Roger at Sanctus group for showing me!)
And then what happens in the future? Well, who could have predicted the last two years? It is pretty damn exciting every week with new tools to discover and new possibilities to consider.
Further future gazing makes me think that at some point, perhaps in my lifetime, the role of marketing will change even more, reducing the need for human mechanical tasks and replacing them with intelligent automation.
So buckle up, marketers. We are in for an enjoyable ride.
